About Us

South Shores Utility Association, Inc. was incorporated in 1985 and is a small private utility company that provides water and sewer services to the South Shores community.

The Association serves members throughout South Shores Oceanside Condominium, South Shores Riverside, Indian Landing, and additional connected properties. Membership becomes effective when an owner’s property is physically connected to the utility plant, and membership transfers with the property.

All owners within the participating HOAs are required to obtain their water and sewer services through South Shores Utility Association. The Association also supports related community amenities and infrastructure, including pools, docks, tennis courts, the South Shores fountain, beach access, and fire hydrants.

To ensure the continued maintenance, operation, and preservation of the utility plant, connected properties are subject to an affirmative covenant and obligation to pay common expenses.

Meter Reading

Step 1

Locate your meter box, generally found towards the front of a property, near the street.
The box is typically in a direct line with the main outside faucet. It is housed in a concrete box usually marked "water".
Remove the lid by using a tool such as a large screwdriver. Insert the tool into one of the holes and pry the lid off.

Step 2

Once you open the meter box lid, lift the protective cap on the meter. On the face of the meter, there is a large dial and a numerical display.

For the residential meter, each rotation of the dial measures 10 gallons. Read the number display from left to right. Be sure to include the stationary zero.
This is your meter reading.

Meters measure water in gallons or cubic feet. Charges for the amount of water consumed are rounded to the nearest thousand gallons or hundred cubic feet used during a billing period. Compare that reading to what your bill lists as your current reading.

Step 3

Keep in mind that you might be checking your meter on a date different from the one used for billing. This could result in a difference between the amount you find and the amount your bill is based on.

If your reading is considerably higher than your bill, check for a leak or determine the source of the large water usage.

If your reading is significantly lower than the reading on your bill, please contact us so we can assist you in determining the problem.

    • IF water leak is between the meter and the road, call Accurate Utilities (772) 489-4411
    • IF the water leak is between the meter and your home, call a plumber.

Conservation Tips

There are a number of easy ways to save water, and they all start with you. When you save water, you save money on your utility bills. Here are just a few ways…

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I call if there is low or no water flow?
K
L

Call Accurate Utilities @772-489-4411, provide your name, if in an HOA/COA provide the name of the association, brief description of the issue.

Tell them you are a member of the SSUA in Melbourne Beach.

How could I have used this much water?
K
L

There are several reasons your water usage may increase.

One common cause is a stuck toilet flapper, which can waste a surprising amount of water without being obvious.

Other possible causes include a dripping indoor or outdoor faucet, a leaking shower, or a potential leak between the meter and your home.

What do I do if I am experiencing low pressure?
K
L

Check your meter and the surrounding area for possible leaks. Next, call Accurate Utilities and report low pressure for your area.

What chemicals does our utility district add to the water?
K
L

Only chemicals that are approved by the National Safety Foundation for treatment of drinking water.

My water tastes, looks, and smells funny. Is it safe to drink?
K
L

All public water systems are required by state law to maintain a minimum chlorine level of 0.2 mg/L (tested at the end of each line). Systems that use chloramine as a disinfectant must maintain a level of 0.5 mg/L by state law.

Our disinfectant levels are tested daily to ensure safety.

Why do I have a previous balance when I know I sent in my payment?
K
L

We may have received it after the due date, or we may not have received it at all. Call APM at 321-636-4889, and we will help you solve the problem.
